In Tim's adult weekly studio class we'll be using still-life and landscape to learn the art of oil painting. Topic to cover are the principle of art, the structure of painting, composition and the abstract element of painting, the fundamental of drawing, the properties of color, the principle of light and how we see as well as how to simplify what we see. Also application of paint will be covered. Tim's teaching combine the classical approach with his own brand of impressionism and boldness.
Tim's class is suited for beginner as well as experienced painter who in particular want to find an alternative to academic painting. Tim style of painting is direct and bold, loose and impressionistic. His own training is based on the traditional figurative school but later find his own voice through his unique take on traditional training merging with his emphasis on feeling and sensation.
Tim has no preference if his students painting is tight or loose, impressionistic or realism. What he wants to convey in his class is that one must understand the fundamental and the language of painting through whatever means one find most suitable and not necessarily only rely on the standard set by the academic or the optical observation method. The standard and looks set by the academic and the optical method is just a sub-set of what painting and art can become - base on the choice of each individual - but do not stands for the ultimate truth of what painting and art is.
