about Timothy

Tim enjoys painting any subjects that appeal to him on a given day. Be it figurative, landscape or still-life Tim pours his feeling into it and create works of great pictorial sensitivity and delight . You could often feel the emotional intensity from Tim’s figurative painting, the impact of color and light on his landscape, as well as a poetic presence from his still-life.

When Tim paint his concentration is on arranging different color next to one another to get a harmonious whole. He said he is often surprised by the effect of how just changing one color can make a painting sing differently. It is this joy of this discovery Tim wants to share with his painting.

Tim studied the art of oil painting intensively for many years with renowned artists that can be traced back to the lineage of the old master and the Russian impressionist.  He counted Sunny Apinchapong Yang, Glenn Vipplu and Karl Gnass as his main teacher. He has also taken classes and workshop from Steve Huston, David Gallup, Scott Burdick, Tony Ryder, David Leffel, John Mora and Jeremy Lipking among others. Tim has also worked as an assistant to Jove Wang for a couple of years. Although Tim's training is strongly grounded in the representational and figurative style, he said he takes inspiration from artists such as Van Gogh; Cezzane; Matisse, Picasso and Michaelangelo - as well as being influenced by the spirit of Chinese brush painting.

Tim has participated at numerous national exhibitions and plein air events across the US, and he had been hornored with 1st place awards and Best of show from them. Tim has been invited or juried into exhibitions such as the International Fine Art Fair; the Biannual Show of the California Art Club; the annual Gold Medal Exhibition; the Annual Salon International Exhibition; Plein air Easton, Sonoma plein air, the Carmel Art Festival: the San Luis Obispo plein air event and many others. Tim was also invited to serve as juror for various events.

Besides painting daily Tim has been teaching oil painting since 2008. Tim was one of the faculty at the 2013 Plein Air Convention in Monterey CA. Tim has taught classes at BMAI Art Institute in Montrose CA, 3 kicks studio in Pasadena CA, San Gabriel Fine Art Association CA as well as privately in the San Gabriel Valley CA.
